Last night both my husband and I were fast asleep before 10 p.m. We like to go to bed early because we are early risers. We were both dreaming away peacefully when at 11:35 p.m. I popped awake to the doorbell ringing. I woke up Rich, telling him I heard the doorbell. He told me I was dreaming; no one was ringing the doorbell. I was sure someone was. I heard it again, and so did Rich. I told him maybe there is an emergency, so we should see who it is. We both timidly walked to our front door entryway. I stood back and Rich bravely walked over to the door to look through the peep hole. Just as he was peeking through someone shines a flashlight into our frosted window near the front door. That someone also bangs on the door very loudly and yells, “Let us in right now!!!” I freak out and grab my cell phone to turn it on. I run to my girls’ bedroom and lock the door. I begin to dial 911. I am thinking there are men outside my front door trying to get in and rob or harm us. Did not think to wonder why they rang the doorbell first. I am also thinking of ways to protect my kids. I am also wondering if Rich is okay and if the men have gotten in. As I am connecting with the 911 operator I hear the front door opening and mens’ voices. I think, “Oh my word, they have just gotten in.” I am shaking and crying. I can barely tell the operator what is happening and have to tell her my home address twice. She gets it, then pauses. She tells me, “Someone from your house already called 911 ten minutes ago from the land line, now you are calling again. The police are already at your house.” I was stunned. I could not believe my ears. Say what? I told her we don’t have a land line anymore. We canceled it months ago. We only have cell phones, and I was just now calling her on my cell phone. I was wondering what she was talking about. She told me to walk out of the room and ask the police officers for myself, and to get off the phone with her. She sounded ticked off at me, as if I was playing a prank. I was totally shocked. My stomach had turned to acid from the panic adrenaline, and I was feeling like I was going to pass out. I walked out of the room and there are three policemen standing in our living room talking to Rich. They confirmed what the 911 operator told me. They scanned our home and Rich took them out to the sunroom. The only thing he could think that happened was that our dwarf bunny who lives in our sunroom had chewed through the former land line cord. It was still connected to our security system. When the bunny chewed it through it activated security and it dialed 911. Rich and the policeman checked the cord and sure enough it had been chewed through. We don’t even know how the bunny got to that side of the sunroom. We have it blocked off. She is one sneaky girl. So, we apologized to the policeman, they apologized to us for waking us up and scary us half to death (at least me anyway), and they left.

Took Rich and I awhile to fall back asleep. My stomach hurt so badly, and I kept thinking about how anything can happen at anytime. My life or lives of those I love could be over instantly. I am not afraid to die because I know I will be in heaven with my Father and my savior, Jesus Christ. That will be beyond wonderful! I am just afraid of the pain of death; the process of it, and I would never want my children to be hurt or for them to have to lose me or their father at a young age.

I woke up this morning (after finally falling asleep again last night) appreciating my family more and feeling more love for them than ever. I also asked God what He wanted me to learn from this experience and what it was for. I think He was trying to tell me to trust in Him and know that this is not my home. My home is in heaven. Don’t get too comfortable here. Also, to love my family with all my heart and to never ever take them for granted. This is a true story and this is what happened last night. I did think I might die and that was a really strange and sick feeling. The liquids in my stomach actually turned to acid and it felt like my stomach was being eaten away.

Luckily, I woke up this morning (a little tired) and my stomach and nerves were okay. I drove to my running buddies house and we had a nice run. We also discovered the exact spot of my injury and there was a big knot in my upper hamstring right under my glut. My friend rubbed out the knot and my leg feels much better now. Now I am getting ready to play outside with my kids, and I will be enjoying every second of it. Today is a good day and I am thankful!

How do you continue your healthy eating habits while traveling? Well, it’s tricky. I traveled last week and found it to be extremely difficult. I also lost a half pound becaue I refused to eat total junk. I would just rather not eat than put toxic food into my body, which is what most food is out there on the road or in an airport.

Here are some things I did to do the best I could. First, I packed some nuts and carrots in a small ziplock. They were not taken away from me at security. Only my water bottle was. So, I bought another one once I got passed security. I also brought a long a Cliff Builder Bar. It was a good thing. I had a layover in Denver for a couple of hours during lunchtime. There was no way in heck I was going to eat at a McDonald’s airport or any other fast food place there. So, I ate my homepacked snacks. These held me over and gave me the nutrition I needed. I was not able to eat again until later that evening when I arrived to my final destination.

I was staying with a friend who’s eating habits were not the same as mine. She was kind enough to ask me before I flew out if I had a specific diet or there was anything I would not eat. I let her know I prefer to stay away from any foods containing hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, anything fried, and white carbs have never sat well with me. These were my biggest no-no’s. I was able to stick with this almost the entire trip. Now, I could not eat organic (like I usually do) on the trip, and I did not get as many fruits and veggies as I normally do, but I made do. One other thing is I am used to eating small meals every two to three hours, but sometimes many hours went by before I was able to eat a meal. One evening, my friend and her husband did not make dinner until 9:30 p.m. That was way off from what my body is used to, and it is not a good idea to eat dinner late at night.

We spent one day at the Slitterbaun waterpark in New Braunfels, TX. My friend packed lunches and snacks for us. I ate a lot of the fresh apple slices, trail mix, and for lunch, I rolled up the turkey and cheddar cheese slices, squirted on some mustard, and left out the bread. Later in the day I bought a roasted corn on the cob that was delicious. So, I did okay and ate as well as I could.

Traveling back home was the hardest. The morning before I left, my friend, another friend, and her whole family got together for a big, homemade breakfast. My friend’s mom cooked a breakfast for us she used to make on the weekends when we were growing up together. It consisted of homemade biscuits made with pure white shortening and white flour, she fried up some bacon and sausage, hashbrowns, and scrambled eggs. There was nothing healthy about it in the least. This is the one time I gave in and ate all that was placed before me. Sometimes you just need to show manners no matter what, and it was like old times. It was very special having breakfast togehter again like we used to when we were so much younger. I will admit, I felt really sick after eating that breakfast, but those biscuits sure were tasty, no matter how toxic the ingredients. On the flight layover I had no healthy snacks left with me and once again, it was just after lunchtime. I had a small bag of roasted peanuts on the first flight, and they were okay, but that was not quite enough. I looked around the airport hoping some place would have fruit, but found nothing. I almost stepped into Mc Donald’s to buy some apple slices, but just could not bring myself to support that place. If you are able to walk in and support Mc D’s, then the bag of apples would be a good choice (leave out the caramel), and probably the only good one. Beware the salads, they put in a ton of sugar to make them taste sweet. Give me a break! I did find a Starbucks, and they had yogurt and fruit parfaits. I was really wanting fruit, so I bought the parfait without even reading the ingredients first. I just figured a Starbucks parfait would be healthy. Well, I read the ingredients after I started eating it and one of the first ingredients was HIGH FRUCTOSE corn syrup. UGH!!!! So, I ate only the blueberries and strawberries out of there and threw away the rest. Then, I had another bag of peanuts on the plane. By this point, I just desperately wanted to get back home and get back to my normal nutrition.

It took me a few days to recover, but the body is resillient. My body survived and I appreciated my healthy at home diet all the more. So, all I can say is when you are traveling, try to be concsious of what you are eating. Don’t just totally give in and eat whatever comes along. You can still be careful and make some semi-decent choices. You don’t have to go all out for every meal and eat all the crap that is out there. If you are staying in a hotel, ask at the front desk if there is a grocery store nearby. Go there and make some healthy choices you can have for breakfast and lunch, then go ahead and splurge a little for dinner by eating out. You want to have plenty of energy for having fun on your vacation, so making the best healthy eating choices you can is a must.

My story may sound a bit extreme, and maybe I am a bit extreme. But, my diet was so completely unhealthy for so many years, and it caused so many health problems for me, that I will NEVER EVER go back to that again in my life. I will do all I can to provide my body with the best nutirtion possible to make up for all those years I ate so poorly. All I care about is quality of life and energy to raise my kids and be productive in my everyday life. I know I will die one day and that my life is just a vapor here on earth. I look forward to the day I meet my Father, and God in heaven. But, while I am here I want to respect this body God gave me and provide a healthy environment for my spirit to reside. I have come to respect this temporary body God has given me, and am so grateful and thankful God has provided me the means to be able to do that. I hope all of you will do the same. Have safe and healthy travels this summer!

This is from a little book called, “You2,” by Dr. Price Pritchett. I am going to write from a portion of his book, then explain what it can mean to you in your quest for reaching your fitness goals. Here it is:

“I’m sitting in a quiet little room at the Millcroft Inn. A peaceful little place hidden back among the pine trees about an hour out of Toronto. It’s just past noon, late July, and I ‘m listening to the desperate sounds of a life-or-death struggle going on just a few feet away. There’s a small fly burning out the last of its short life’s energies in a futile attempt to fly through the glass of the windowpane. The whining wings tell the poignant story of the fly’s strategy-try harder.

‘But it’s not working.’

The frenzied effort offers no hope for survival. Ironically, the struggle is part of the trap. It is impossible for the fly to try hard enough to succeed at breaking through the glass. Nevertheless, this little insect has staked its life on reaching its goal through raw effort and determination. This fly is doomed. It will die there on the windowsill.

Across the room, ten steps away, the door is open. Ten seconds of flying time and this small creature could reach the outside world it seeks. With only a fraction of the effort now being wasted, it could be free of this self-imposed trap. The break though possibility is there. It would be so easy.

Why doesn’t the fly try another approach, something dramatically different? How did it get so locked in on the idea that this particular route, and determined effort, offer the most promise for success? What logic is there in continuing until death, to seek a breakthrough with ‘more of the same?’

No doubt this approach makes sense to the fly. Regrettably, it is an idea that will kill.

Here’s my request to you for today. DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Look for something you disagree with. That is the place where a breakthrough will come from. ”

For you, that might mean doing something differently that your body disagrees with. Human beings tend to get into routines in life. We will grow up eating a certain way and that will stick with us into adulthood. We get used to certain foods, and for many of us, those certain foods are not healthy or nourishing to the body, but that is what we are used to and what we like. These foods even seem to agree with our body. We crave these foods and it is what we know, so we keep at it just like the fly. Even though the way we are eating is killing us, we do it anyway because that is what feels right and what seems to agree with our bodies.

The same goes for exercising. If we are not used to exercising and try to incorporate this into our lives, it feels very uncomfortable at first, and our bodies protest. Our bodies seem to be screaming to us, “I disagree with this! I don’t like it. It is not working for me!” So, we give up and quit. The way we are not exercising is killing us, just like the fly is not finding a new approach to reaching freedom is killing him.

So, you can stick to what you know and have known for your whole life. Stick to what feels comfortable. Stick to the lie of what your body agrees with; eating an unhealthy diet because it tastes good (although once you do completely stop eating like this it will never taste good again. It will actually make you very sick if you try it again), or not exercising because that seems like the easiest way. That will surely bring misery in your life, and most possibly an early death. The only way to conquer this is to find a new route and take that route. Do something you currently disagree with and with patience and persistence it will be something your body agrees with and your whole life will be changed for the better!

Today I would like to share a recipe that I have made twice now for my family. It is a big hit, and best of all it is easy to make and really healthy. If you are looking for a dinner idea, give this one a try!

Pan Seared Chicken with Cilantro Pesto
Ingrdients:
2 TBS cold pressed virgin olive oil
4 boneless, organic chicken breasts
salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 TBS pine nuts
1 cup fresh packed cilantro
1/2 c fresh packed parsely
1/3 c low fat sour cream
1TBS minced garlic

Heat 1 TBS oil in large skillet over medium heat. Season both sides of the chicken with salt and pepper. Place the chicken in the hot pan and cook until golden brown and just cooked through.
Meanwhile, place the pine nuts in a small dry skillet and set over medium heat. Toast the nuts until golden brown, about 3 minutes, shaking the pan frequently to prevent burning. Transfer the pine nuts to a blender or food processor and add cilantro, parsley, sour cream, 1TBS oil, the garlic and 1/2 tsp salt. Process until smooth, adding water as necessary to create a thick paste. Serve the chicken with the pesto spooned over the top. I add rice vegetable twists to serve with the chicken and pesto mixture. You may also use any type of whole wheat pasta.
Let me tell you, this make a DELICIOUS pesto! There is nothing like homemade and it is so incredibly healthy!

I prefer organic chicken breasts because these chickens are free range, meaning they are not confined to a small area, they eat whatever they find in nature, while they are ranging free. They do not eat cheap chicken feed. PLus, they are not injected with any type of synthetic hormone. Who would want that in their human body? NOT ME!!!

I choose cold pressed virgin olive oil because vegetable oil and canola oil are junk!
While all types of olive oil are sources of monounsaturated fat, EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil, from the first pressing of the olives, contains higher levels of antioxidants, particularly vitamin E and phenols, because it is less processed.

Olive oil is clearly one of the good oils, one of the healing fats. Most people do quite well with it since it does not upset the critical omega 6 to omega 3 ratio and most of the fatty acids in olive oil are actually an omega-9 oil which is monounsaturated. Why would I want to put any other type of oil into my body or my family's body than this?

I stay away from white pasta. I try to stick with gluten free, such as the vegetable twists. They taste just like pasta, maybe even better. Whole wheat is better for obvious reasons. More nutrition than the white pasta. White pasta just aids in making you fat! Who wants that?

Once you start eating healthy and start making your body a healthy environment then your tastebuds will change and will actually crave the heathly foods and oils. They will taste so good. The junk will taste horrible and eventually your body will not be able to tolerate junk at all anymore.

Finally, my husband found this FREE website that he is now using all the time. I tried it out yesteday. Quite cool! You can enter in what you eat during the day and it will calculate the calories for you. You can see how many calories you are really taking in each day. You can also use the sight to figure out how many calroies you need each day or how much of a calorie deficet you need to lose weight. You can put in that you woul like to lose 1/2 lb. per week or up to 3 lbs. per week. Pretty neat and easy to use. Here is the website address if you would like to check it out for yourself.

Just about everyone who is overweight wants to lose weight. I have not yet met a person who wants to be fat. Being a running and fitness coach for many years, I hear the same stories over and over again. People say they want to lose weight and get fit to be healthy, but they don’t do it. People will even ask me to help them lose weight or to train for this or to do that, then when it comes time to making a plan and meeting about it, the people back out or act as if they totally forgot they even asked for help. One question I have asked myself over and over again is, “WHY?”

I think I have finally figured it out, because I looked at areas in my own life where I was wanting to change, but have not. Even though I keep talking about wanting and needing to make that change, I still have not. This must be the same reason why people do not make the change to lose weight. Note: Most of my blog entry today comes from Tony Robbins and the insights I have gotten from his lectures.

Here is an example. Let’s say Jane is 30 lbs overweight and she decides she is fed up of carrying around that extra weight and feeling its burden everyday. So, she walks out her front door and forces herself to jog 5 miles. It takes her an hour and a half, and she has to walk more than she can actually jog. When she returns home she is breathing so heavily that she about passes out. She feels worse than ever! The next morning, her body aches all over and it hurts to walk. Plus, she is still 30 lbs overweight. She decides, “The heck with working out. I did not even lose a single pound for my effort and I hurt all over. It is hopeless.” So she gives up. The problem is, the task of losing weight now seems impossible and no fun at all. Then, begins her story of excuses as to why she cannot lose weight or why she cannot workout. She even comes up with more reasons to confirm the impossibilty of it, such as, “I don’t have enough time”, “I am too tired”, “My life is too hectic,” “Nothing works”, and so on and so on. This person has created too big a task for herself, made it too overwhelming to accomplish it, and she was only focusing on the process she would have to go through to reach her weight loss goal instead of focusing on the outcome. She impulsively decided to make herself do a tortuous run and feel lots of pain. Who wants to experience pain like that on a daily basis? No one! The same goes for those who impulsively decide to go on a diet. They want to look good without having to experience the effort of working out. Many will diet, which means depriving the body of food. After a while the person gets sick of depriving herself and binges. She gains all the weight back, and more because now her body has become even better at storing fat. When the body thinks it is being starved it will develop a survival strategy, and that strategy is to store food as fat. The person then feels more lousy than ever and gives up hope.

Here are a few more quotes from the master Tony Robbins (who is where I got most of my eye opener ideas from) as to why people are not successful with being fit and at the right body weight. I thought these quotes were right on and they made so much sense to me. Do any of them speak to you?

“People who are phyiscally fit are not just born that way. They have developed a pattern of the way they they think and the things they do to achieve this.”

“Establish a pattern to focus on what matters most. Saying that someday you’ll lose weight leads to a town called nowhere. “

“What prevents you from following through with what you say you should do or what you want to do is that you do not take the right kind of action.”

“Raise your standards by turning your shoulds into musts. Make it change from, ‘I should lose weight’ to, ‘I must lose weight.’ “

“Those who succeed focus on how they are going to feel at the end of the process rather than what they have to do to get there. Focus on what you want rather than what you have to go through to get there.”

“Don’t say, ‘I have to do this.’ Instead say, ‘I get to do this as a gift to myeslf.’

“People who succeed at being fit are in control because the discipline of being fit gives them pride and excitement. This is because they are in charge of themselves. They do what they say they are going to do and that gives them power. It also gives them freedom!”

“Everybody talks about things, such as, ‘I want to lose weight.’ ‘I want to become a runner.’ ‘I want to look better or feel better.’ Talk is cheap.”

“What is the story you are telling yourself about why you can’t do this? Drop the story and quit lying to yourself. Tell the truth to yourself and start moving. Nothing gets better until you admit to what you are doing wrong.”

Don’t just start exercising one day with no plan by doing something random or impossbile that you know you won’t be able to contiune on a daily basis. Get a Beachbody coach to help you begin a workout program that will work. Get a coach who will cheer you on and encourage you everyday, if that is what you need. Get a Beachbody coach for free! The coaches are free! Follow in the footsteps of someone who is already there and knows what to do and what it takes to find true heatlh and fitness, then tweak it to meet your own likes and needs. There is a program out there for everyone. Maybe you want to become a runner. Maybe you like to dance, maybe you want to build solid muscle. Maybe you just want to lose that stinking rotten 30 or more pounds of weight that is robbing your body of freedom. Whatever it is, there is something for you. If you consistently focus on your why and what you want your end result to be then you will do what it takes to succeed. Change your thinking and change your body! It is as simple as that.

Being a Beachbody coach has some great rewards! One of them is when a person finally gets it. I have a friend who I have been talking to about Beachbody for two years now. She has always been interested and knows she needs to lose weight and get fit, but has never made the commitment, until now. Just last night she committed to doing 90 days of Chalean Extreme. She signed up under me so I can be her coach and she ordered the Chalean program. I have been letting her borrow my extra copy for a week so she would be able to get started right away. She has already completed week one of the Burn Circuit and is very sore. The good news is that she is welcoming the soreness and appreaciates it. She knows the soreness means her body is working to burn fat and build muscle. I am so excited for my friend!

I could have given up on my friend long ago, but I did not. I just kept being an example and I kept encouraging her. That is what a Beachbody coach does. As coaches we get a whole lot of “No’s” or, “I’m interested, but not right now.” That is the nature of the beast. Being a coach is not about the coach, it is about each individual the coach is trying to reach. It is about giving a gift to others that the coach already has for herself. Sometimes it takes people a long time to finally recieve that gift, and to believe it is for real. As a coach, it is my job to keep offering the gift, and never stop. Ultimately, it becomes a greater gift for me when another person takes my gift and changes his or her life for the better. There is nothing better than to give someone else the gift of health and fitness.

If you have been putting off or turning away from the same gift, then I encourage you today to reach out and take hold of the gift. Embrace it and let it change your life for the better. With Beachbody you will never be on your own. You will have the support of a coach and a whole community of success buddies and incentives to workout, like the daily incentive of winning cash just for entering your workout into the onloine virtual gym. Someone wins everyday! If you are ready to recieve your special gift today then please click on the link below and I will help you use your gift to its fullest! Once you get to my coach site, click on the blue JOIN THE CLUB tab and get started!

The truth is all human beings are wired to seek pleasure and flee from pain. This is how we are wired. None of us like pain. The only problem is that most of us end up creating pain for ourselves as we are trying to desperately escape it. For example, a person who is overweight wants to lose weight, but the process of exercising and eating right creates temporary pain. For some people that pain is too costly, so the person continues to stick with the temporary pleasure that overeating and sleeping in or laying on the couch brings. It is quite pleasurable to most to eat a piece of chocolate cake, or drink a soda, or whatever junk food fits that person’s fancy. This pleasure lasts a couple of minutes at the most. After that pleasure has worn off then comes the pain of being fat because of it. But, most people would rather feel that temporary pleasure over and over again than feel the long term pleasure that exercising and eating healthy brings. This is quite normal for human beings to behave this way. But it is only the elite few who are able to CHANGE their thinking and see pleasure and pain for what they really are. My mission is to change the above phrase into the MANY who are able to change their way of thinking. My dream would be for there to be more fit people than fat people in the U.S.

If you are reading this blog entry, know that I care about you. I may not even know you, but I really do care. I have such a desire and passion to give the gift of fitness to others, because I have found it for myself and it is the most pleasurable way to live. Words cannot describe what pleasure it brings. I know, because I have been on the other side. I have been unhealthy and miserable and I am NEVER going back to that daily pain. So, what I would ask you to do now is make two separate lists, depending on how you are choosing to live your life right now. Make the first one on the left side of the paper titled “The very short term pleasure I get from eating or drinking _____________.”You fill it in. On the right side of the paper title it, “The long term pleasure I would get from eating healthy.” If you are currently not exercising or only sporadically, then your next list should be titled, “The pleasure I get from not exercising.” On the other side of the paper it should be titled, “The pleasure I would get from exercising consistently and with a plan.” After you complete your list see which one is the longest list. I can tell you mine:

Pleasure I used to get from eating anything with sugar in it.
1. A temporary satisfaction to my food drug craving. The next craving usually came on a few hours later. I would usually crave dessert after both lunch and dinner.
2. A delicious taste that made me feel lots of happiness and satisfaction for as long as it took me to eat it and about five minutes after I was done eating it.
3. An emotional friend when I was feeling blue.
THAT’S ABOUT IT!

The pleasure I now get from eating healthy.
1. Lots and lots of energy. No lethargy unless I do not get enough sleep.
2. Better use of my brain. More clear thinking.
3. A lean body.
4. Get sick less often.
5. Cravings for healthy foods.
6. Fun being creative with healthy recipes and food choices.
7. A great example to my kids and giving them the gift of healthy foods.
8. No more junk food addictions.
9. Empowerment to not be a slave to junk food or drinks.
10. Freedom from short-term, harmful pleasure. Freedom to experience true pleasure that is long term.

I have never not exercised so I would not have this one on my list. But if I did I might write, “The pleasure I get form not exercising.”
1. Being able to sleep in.
2. Not having to feel any physical pain that exercise causes.
3. Not having to get out of breath.
4. Not having to sweat.
5. Not having to organize my time better.

Pleasure I DO get from exercising.
1. Enjoying the focus it brings.
2. Enjoying the natural high it brings.
3. Enjoying pushing my body further and harder.
4. Enjoying getting a stronger body.
5. Enjoying being lean and muscular.
6. Not having to be embarrassed to be out in public being overweight with rolls of fat.
7. Feeling confident in a swim suit or bikini.
8. Having lots of energy throughout the day.
9. Being able to keep up with my children.
10. Being able to share fitness with others and be confident about it.

Did not even have to think about those ten facts. I whipped them right out. I am sure I could list 20 more pleasure facts I get from exercising, but I think I have made my point. It took some thinking to name the pleasure I would get from not exercising.

You can also make reverse lists. You can make the lists titled, The pain you get from each one. This would also be a good idea. After making your lists and being honest about them, the next step is to change your view of pleasure and pain. Think long term rather than short term benefits. The next time you are tempted to eat a piece of junk ask yourself, “Is the few minutes of short term pleasure I am going to receive from eating this really worth the long term pain of feeling like crap after eating it?” If you give in once, then you will give in again and again and it will become a bad habit. The only way to break it is to change your thinking. The same goes for exercise. I have said this before, but I have never once regretted getting up at 5 a.m. to work out. Many days it has been incredibly hard getting up that early and get going with my workout, but I do it anyway. I workout if I am sick, if I have not had much sleep that night, if I am traveling, it does not matter. I work out and I stick to my schedule. I make a weekly workout schedule each Sunday evening. This keeps me organized and gives me something specific to follow. The rare occasions I have slept in and not gotten up to work out, I have always regretted. I don’t make excuses, and I have experienced it all. This past school year, I worked full-time teaching 5th grade, I was a part-time independent Beachbody coach, and I was a mom to my three young children, the youngest being only two years old. I could have made the excuse that I am too busy and have too many responsibilities, but that would only be an excuse. My exercising never takes time away from my children. That is why I do it early. Although, now that school is out I may sleep in at least until 5:45 a.m. That will be a nice relief!

Okay, make your lists and start changing your thinking today. Your reality is what you perceive. Make your reality one you can be proud of and feel great about!

For the past couple of months I have been trying something new. That something new is called Shakeology. It is Beachbody’s powder shake that contains 70 healthy ingredients in one scoop. It is called, “The Healthiest Meal of the Day.” If you are trying to lose weight, then that is what it can be literally, a meal replacement each day. I am not trying to lose weight, so I have it as a morning snack. I mix it with 8 oz of 1% organic milk and that makes for 250 calories. Perfect! My body has come to crave this shake right around 10:45 every morning. I look forward to it and it gives me a boost of energy for mid-morning. It keeps me going strong and full of energy until lunch.

I am one who normally has to water down everything. I prefer water and iced tea over most drinks, and that is about it. I do drink OJ in the morning with my breakfast, but I water it down. It is too acidic for me to drink straight. If I am doing a long run and take a sport drink, that too is watered down. Sometimes I will drink grape juice with my dinner, and yes, that is very watered down. I have about 1/4 juice to 3/4 water. I have tried other healthy powder drinks and they have tasted gritty and grimy. Quite horrible to the taste buds. Basically, I have had to gag them down. This is not the case with Shakeology. I drink the chocolate flavor and I find it to be absoultely delicious! It is like a choclatey treat! No watering it down! AMAZING for me!

If you have not yet tried Shakeology then I highly recommend that you give it a try. You just might become addicted to it like I am. The price tag seems expensive, but I have cut out other snacks, and my lunch portions are now smaller. I don’t need as much thanks to Shakeology. So, I am not really spending any new money. Just rearranging what I was already spending on snacks and lunches. If you use it as a meal replacement for lunch, then it takes all the thinking out of what to make for your lunch. It’s done for you, and it costs only about $4 per serving, unless you are an independent Beachbody coach, then the cost is 25% less, because coaches get that disount. Another great reason to be a coach too. But, that is for another entry another day.

Give Shakeology a try. You just might like it. I know your body will! Go to your Beachbody webiste to order after you check out the site for Shakeology that Beachbody has provided. Go to the link to learn more about it.

There are so many things I have had on my mind this last week that I want to write about. I don’t want to leave anything out, so instead of picking one I will share them all in short enrtires.

Entry one: After two years of P90X, I am temporarily saying good-bye to it and saying hello to Chalean Extreme. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love P90X and plan to come back to it after 90 days of Chalean. I just needed something new and something different to try, and Chalean is just the program for what I need. It is just as intense as P90X but with a completely different twist. I just completed week two and am as sore as heck! I am having so much fun! So, if you love P90X but have been working out to it for quite sometime and need a change, then I would suggest Chalean. Then, when you come back to P90X again, it will be fresh and new!

Entry two: Only two more weeks til summer break here in Albuquerque. I went back to teaching this year after resigning two years ago to stay home with my three children and be a full-time work at home Beachbody coach. Unfortunately, my husband and I separated last August and that is why I went back to teaching. I needed both incomes to support myself. Luckily, by the literal grace of God (He gets all the glory), we reunited four months ago. Our marriage has been saved, and we plan to stay together until death do us part. With that, I will be free from teaching again in two short weeks. I will be free to pursue my Beachbody coaching and being a full-time mom to my children. Even though this year was hard for me and I did not really want to be a classroom teacher, I did do the best I could and I also taught my students about eating healthy and living healthy lifestyles. At first, they laughed at me. At first they would show me all their junk snacks and think it was funny when I cringed. But, now at the end of the year, I have really rubbed off on them and they are making healthier choices. They are brining in water to drink rather than soda, they are bringing in granola bars (with no hydrogenated oils- they have learned to check for this nasty ingredient) for snacks instead of candy bars. We are even having a healthy snack potluck next week and having a contest to see who can make the most delicious and creative healthy snack to share. One student told me she does not want to grow up and have health problems or be overweight, so she is not going to eat sweets all the time anymore. It was a daily thing for her for most of the year. Another student decided to go vegan and has been sticking with it for two months now. I never mentioned that one, but she thought of it on her own. I am really proud of my students. I hope they can take what I taught them and remember me as the healthy teacher who helped them become healthier too! A student cannot excel in school if his or her body and brain are not being noursihed adequately. Junk food destroys brain cells.
Entry three: Junk food consists of ANY fast food restaurant – Wendy’s Mc Donald’s, Taco Bell, Burger King…well, you get the idea. Also, fried foods, foods high in sodium, desserts made with refined white sugar (the body has no idea how to process this unnatural ingredient that has been stripped of all its natural properites), any food or snack containing hydrogented oils, high fructose corn syrup, or just plain corn syrup, white breads and carbs, sodas, diet sodas (even worse that regular sodas), juices that are not all natural and sweetened with real fruit, and there are plenty more. Just use your imagination! But these are the main criminals of the killer junk foods that make you obese, sick and not able to have any energy or think at your fullest potential. Moderation is NOT the key for any of these. NEVER is the key. NEVER put any of these into your body. There are some things you just comepletey stay away from. It is no different than cigarettes or drugs. I would never smoke a cigarette every once in awhile, would you? But, it did take me a period of five years to finally get rid of ALL the junk, so take baby steps if you need too, and it will happen.

Entry four: I used to be addcited to eating junk. Yes, now you know why I have such a passion for helping others break this nasty habit. I lived it myself and it wreaked havoc on my body. My main addcition was to bad carbs and sugar. I loved chocolate cake, cookies, Little Debbie cakes, Dunkin Donuts, sodas, and more. It has taken me a good five years to get to where I am, and only recently, very recently, have I began totally breaking my sugar addiction. Years ago I moved away from white sugar to brown sugar, then raw sugar, then fruit sweetened goodies. but nonetheless, was always finding ways to satisfy my sweet addcition. I was also still eating Einstein bagels and breads with wheat until recently. I have now gone gluten free, which has totally taken away my sweet cravings. They are gone, and for me, this is HUGE. I am probably the biggest sugar addict alive. My natural doctor told me I needed to go gluten free for 30 days because my body was having a reaction to wheat. So, I followed her advice and it has been the best decision ever. I subsitute with spelt and it is great! I am also eating more raw nuts along with juicing veggeis and fruits. Filling my body with completely pure and healthy ingredients is making such a difference that words cannot even explain it. The way I feel it unbelievable! You would have to try it for yourself to understand. I used to think that feeling like crap all the time was just normal, but now I have discovered it is not. Feeling alive and full of energy is normal. It was as simple as changing my diet and fueling my body properly. This is now my new addiction, and I plan to stay addcited the rest of my life. Some people resent me for my mission of health. I was even shunned from a mom’s group a few years back because they resented me sharing about eating healthy, even though I only talked about it a couple of times. I usually do not say a lot. I just try to be an example. But, nonetheless, that did not stop me from continuing to share the word of health with others. I hope all of you will want to join me!

Entry five: Today is Mother’s Day. I returned from my run this morning and my four year old woke up about 3o minutes later, so excited to give me her gift. She and her little sister each got me identical neckalces. They are pink and white and very heavy. Something I would never wear normally. but they picked them out at the bookstore at our church. They were so proud to give them to me. I will wear them for my girls and be proud of the necklaces. My son gave me a Nike running outfit. It is PINK! I love it. I ran in it this morning and it was so comfy. He had been saving his money for months just to get me something special for Mom’s day. What sweetheart chidlren I have. My husband even got in on it and gave me the Chalean upgrade kit, which is three additional workouts and weighted gloves. I am sooo excited!

Well, those are my entries. I hope this Mother’s Day finds everyone doing well and living the best life you can live!
